Inspiration
One of the sponsors at this Hackathon set the challenge of "Can you think of something that would help students?"
Both of us have been students at some point so we immediately had some ideas, eventually we found common ground on "I would have loved to have met more people", so we started thinking about what could have helped us.
What it does
This app allows users to set up and attend meetings, and rewards them for doing so with points.
Our goal is to help students so we'd love to be able to let the points be exchanged for coffee or food discounts
How we built it
A combination of python, fastapi and React
We also used Adalo to quickly design what it could look like
Challenges we ran into
Tom is from the UK, Mike is from Spain, it turns out we had VERY different ideas as to what the typical student is!
We spent a lot of time planning, even completely changed the goal of the app about 10 hours in.
Tom had not used React before this weekend so was delegated to moral support, presentation and misc tasks, while Mike basically wrote the entire app ♥
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We had something functional, for a first hackathon that's way beyond expectations!
What we learned
Hackathon experience mostly, it was a fun time and we enjoyed working together, we'll definitely be attending others in the future!
Tom here, I'd like to personally thank Mike for taking the time to explain stuff to me, I was completely new to APIs and React before this weekend but he walked me through what he was doing and really helped me understand a lot this weekend, Thank you.
What's next for Cool Team
Nothing planned, we may re-purpose this app in some way in the future!
