Inspiration
I bought a huge strip of LED lights to spice up this PC I built over the summer, after doing that, I still had a lot of lights left over, but I hadn't really done anything with them except occasionally throw them under my bed for some mood lighting. Little did I know that it would change on Leap Day, 2020... - Aman
I was walking home from class one day and saw that they were cutting down one of the trees by my freshman dorm. That tree was very dear to me as it blocked the sun to my room and allowed me to sleep in more. Once the construction crew had left, they left behind a single triangular slab of the tree and so I took it. The slab had been sitting on my desk until I decided that this would be a good occasion to improve on it and brighten my life. - Nikolay
What it does
It illuminates spaces, and makes us look like we have a LOT of swagger.
How I built it
I wrapped my lights around a soup can, sandwiched the soup can between two pieces of wood, and surrounded the whole thing with sandblasted acrylic. - Aman
I used the bandsaw to take out the middle portion of the wedge. I then, using the jigsaw cut two similarly shaped pieces of polycarbonate and selectively sandblasted them before adding screws to close the device. - Nikolay
Challenges I ran into
The lamp turned out almost exactly how I wanted it to, except for some mishaps from the belt sander. Next time, I will be more careful on the belt sander.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Building a BEAUTIFUL lamp that I can very easily make arduinofied whenever I find the time. It is very extensible and very chic. - Aman The lamp is beautiful and includes both industrial and nature inspired aspects. - Nikolay
What I learned
How to NOT cut polycarbonate (jigsaw is a straight NOPE). Also, to be careful on the belt sander. Also, the wonderful liquid that is acetone (god bless acetone) - Aman There is never enough time - Nikolay
