Inspiration
We try to help students be able to find out what to eat if they live off campus, and where to eat if they live on campus. Dining experience is one of the most important aspects of college, and eating the right food with the right people can make all the difference.
What it does
We do this by using AI technology to have users input food images, and the website spits out the ingredients used to cook that specific food. We also have a feature that allows students to enter in where they are on campus, and the website spits out the closest on-campus food location to all the students. For each dining place, there is an option for students to read and write reviews.
How we built it
We used HTML/CSS, Javascript, Bootstrap, Flask, Pytorch, Python, OpenCV, SQLite.
Challenges we ran into
As a first time hackathon team, we ran into the issue of inexperience. We tried to do too much at once, and we ended up having to slim down our app to focus more on usability rather than 'spamming' features. This made our app more coherent with a consistent theme and target user--leading it to have more potential impact.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud to have finished the app and come up with unique features for a tool we think many students would benefit from.
What we learned
We learned a lot about design thinking. Coding skills are important, but the overall roadmap is the equally as important. We learned to be able to think systematically about what we want to build instead of just blindly bulding for the sake of it.
What's next for CookmeAI
We plan to incorporate live feed updates about dining halls everyday so students can have an informed decision about where to eat daily. This update will include statistics about how crowded the dining hall is, as well as the menu itself.
