Inspiration
Simply put, we were inspired by food. However, as we did not have the tools to create any actual, edible products, we instead decided on a different approach: creating a cookbook. This in turn sparked the more poetic idea of comparing recipes to human concepts with a focus on simplicity and design. As a team of poets and artists this was the perfect way to showcase what we're passionate about and why we're here at Horizons.
How we built it
We started out with a document for planning out the content of each page. This meant writing out our theoretical ingredients and instructions, and planning our color palette, page order, and drawings. Then, to create the artwork, we used a digital drawing program for tablet and a stylist. This included the text itself, which was hand-drawn.
Challenges we ran into
The hardest part of this experience was trying to work together between the three of us with limited resources. We only had one tablet to work with which was not the most time efficient.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Having fun!
What we learned
One of the biggest takeaways of this project was simplicity - we really tried to keep it simple and sweet despite being in an environment where it's so easy to overcomplicate things.
