Inspiration

We were inspired to do this because we have experienced the effects of wildfires and the drought. The skies would turn into an orange-ish color when there was a wildfire nearby and the air quality would decline significantly. We have also adopted habits of conserving water in order to cope with the drought that is going on. There has been an increase in wildfires in the past year and increase in drought conditions. People need to understand the severity of the situation and learn how they can help by slightly changing their habits, for example, taking shorter showers to conserve water.

What it does

The interactive program lets users can learn more about drought levels and wildfires in California or play a game by answering a hypothetical problem. If users want to learn more about the issues, then the program will provide random facts. The program can also provide drought and wildfire facts based on a region they enter. The users can learn how to take action to prevent droughts and wildfires and how to help the people that are affected.

How we built it

We built the program with scanners, different classes, and different methods. There's also a main method to run the code.

Challenges we ran into

A challenge that we ran into is the error that appear if user doesn’t enter the correct data type, for example, entering a letter when the program is reading an integer Another challenge is the runtime exception/stack overflow when entering wrong data type and repeatedly asking user to put in the right data type The last challenge is making sure the scanner doesn’t stop and cause errors when moving from region facts to the hypothetical game

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of doing all the classes. We are also proud of using a scanner.

What we learned

We relearned how to use scanner, and we also learned how to debug the error to get users to input the correct data structure.

What's next for Cookies&Cream - California Wildfires and Droughts

In the future, we want to connect the program to news sources so that we can keep up with the updates regarding the wildfires and drought. We also want to track the wildfires and drought levels in real time for each of the four regions in California. To make the information more visually appealing, we hope to implement GUI and an app interface with graphics.
