Inspiration

Our friend group in college is really big on cooking. Youssef gets recipes from his grandma all the way in Egypt, Cristian gets his recipes from various mexican relatives, and our friend Mckenna even gets recipes from her friends in China. We all would love to have an easy way to share these recipes with each other, so we decided to make a website that we can all post our recipes on.

What it does

This website will allow users to log in (possibly) to their account, update their profiles, and post recipes they want to share with their friends or anyone in general. The website will be organized very efficiently, to where you can search for the names of recipes you remember, or search for a friend's name and be able to see the recipes they have posted. The site will also (possibly) be able to differentiate between diets, being able to identify is a recipe is vegan or even halal!

How we built it

We used Lit.Element, CSS and Javascript to make as much of the website as we could in the time we had alloted for the hackathon. This is a real project that we will keep working on, however, until it is a fully functioning website and app that everyone can add their recipes to.

Challenges we ran into

Crisitian and Youssef did not know any CSS, Javascript, or HTML prior to working on this, so we were learning as we coded. Cristian and Youssef did the front end, while Joseph worked on the backend and getting the database to send information to the website.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learning a good amount of 2-3 languages, and being able to do the basics of front-end and back end web developing. This is skill we will definitely develop and use for the future

What we learned

We learned how to work better as a team, and split up tasks for maximum efficiency. We tried using an almost pipeline-like technique so that we were all developing different parts of the website at the same time.

What's next for CookBook for the BBs

We will continue developing our website, even possibly integrating user authentication and making it so that people can create their own profiles. We will then probably advertise the website and make it more unique. Down the road, we might even implement machine learning to be able to determine what category a recipe belongs in based on its ingredients.
