Inspiration

New managers are often expected to handle difficult conversations well before they have had a safe place to practice them. Conversation Practice is a private rehearsal space for those moments: giving difficult feedback, setting boundaries, and saying no when priorities conflict.

What it does

The app provides three free core workplace scenarios. Each conversation is short and bounded, and after every response the user gets structured reflection across five areas: clarity, message placement, boundaries, room for the other person to respond, and progress toward the goal.

Users can revisit a completed moment, retry it with different wording, and compare the new attempt with the original. Optional dictation is available, with a full typing fallback. Practice history is local and can be deleted from the app.

Practice Plus is a one-time, non-consumable purchase that unlocks three additional challenge conversations. The core scenarios, feedback review, and retries stay free.

How we built it

Conversation Practice is built with Flutter and Dart for an iOS-first release. RevenueCat handles the one-time Practice Plus entitlement and restore flow, backed by Apple in-app purchase. Codemagic builds and signs the iOS release from GitHub, then publishes the release build to App Store Connect.

The purchase flow was validated on a real iPhone through TestFlight: purchase activation, entitlement unlock, deleting and reinstalling the app, Restore Purchases, and access to all three challenge conversations.

Challenges

The hardest part was making monetization reliable without making the free experience feel incomplete. The entitlement path had to fail closed, stay responsive to RevenueCat customer-info updates, and restore access correctly after a fresh install.

We also hardened the release pipeline around Apple signing, provisioning, TestFlight processing, App Store Connect metadata, screenshots, and device-family targeting.

What we learned

Real store behavior has to be tested on-device. Mocked purchase channels can verify code paths, but they cannot prove Apple receipt handling, RevenueCat entitlement activation, or restore behavior after reinstall.

What's next

After launch, the focus is on improving the quality of the coaching loop, expanding realistic manager scenarios, and keeping the product deliberately simple: practice, reflect, retry, and enter the real conversation better prepared.
