Inspiration

Coda AI can be used to help us understand people through the words they use. One aspect of this is understanding customers through conversations such as those that occur in Discourse communities. I spend a lot of time in communities trying to help people and learning from experts. Even a new topic can have 20 replies. It takes significant reading and comprehension effort to wrap my head around a new topic thread. Getting up to speed on anything that interests me is time-consuming. I wanted to compress the time and accelerate my engagement.

What it does

This template identifies influential participants, the key focus of the topic, and it even attempts to see things that the participants may have overlooked. It collects data about the conversation and uses it to make inferences that help me digest the topic quickly without missing anything.

As a Coda solution, this template also exemplifies the power of Coda AI and almost every facet of a Coda solution. It uses a Pack to read and parse a Discourse conversation. And it uses actions to dynamically build topic dashboards.

This is a tool that helps me understand people based on their interpersonal interactions. Conversations contain valuable information, and this approach saves me a lot of time when I discover a topic that I must know more about. It gets me up to speed on the conversation by summarizing, organizing various perspectives, and visually displaying analytics.

How I built it

Coda Pack, Coda Formulas, and Coda AI.

Challenges I ran into

AI prompts are the biggest challenge, many of which I overcame with Promoptology.

What I learned

Conversational analytics and insights become far more useful when wrapping Coda AI into the solution.

What's next for Conversation Insights

New Pack plugins for many conversational data sources. This tool can be shaped for use with any conversational content. The examples used for this submission are for the Coda Discourse community. I use it with seven Discourse communities and two other conversational data sources, including a survey system.

Conversation Insights Formulate the Basis for Knowledge

I was doodling with this template last night, and I realized, the archive process I mentioned in the new Release Notes page is the precursor to a bigger discussion about sustaining these analyses in a data store.

Imagine all the threads you reviewed and your comments pooled into a single knowledge base. I'm not sure Coda can handle that scale, but it can be one of many funnels to build sustainable knowledge from day-to-day workflows.
