Inspiration

typewriting application like monkeytype that gives you insight on how well your typing performance is.

What it does

provides feedback in the form of metrics, visual chart, & communication insight (on how well you performed in: topic relevance, content quality, delivery feedback, & providing practical steps to improve as a speaker).

How we built it

built it using react-Vite for frontend & simple node.js & MongoDB as the database.

Challenges we ran into

The most challenging probably deciding between whether to use self-made words per minute calculation or the one provided by web speech API. Besides that, the limitations of utilizing Web Speech API that is limited to some browsers.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

built an application focused on independent practice/learning that is well suited for cases like improving communication skills without a tutor. For example practicing for IELTS or preparing for a presentation, where a topic is given to you and your ability to communicate relevant info is encouraged.

What we learned

Learned how to utilize the Web Speech API, Gemini API, and other external libraries like recharts, framer-motion, etc.

What's next for Conversation Coach

Extend functionality to other fields such as: able to take in pdf/ppt and as context & evaluate how user performed based on the completeness/clarity/quality/etc. of how they presented the pdf/ppt.
