Ideation Phase

  • Goal: To create an AI-powered platform that bridges employment gaps, ensuring job opportunities are accessible to everyone, regardless of their personal circumstances, physical abilities, or socio-economic background.

Inspiration

  • The idea originated from a discussion with my friends during one of our subjects, where we envisioned a way to simplify job searching for those facing employment barriers, and from there, I integrated AI to enhance its efficiency and accessibility.

What it does

Convergent is an AI-driven job assistance platform that leverages machine learning and data analytics to match individuals with career opportunities based on their skills, preferences, and specific needs while providing them with resume-building tools, career guidance, and a comprehensive resource hub to enhance their job-seeking journey.

  • Vox Quae – A smart job-matching algorithm that analyzes user data, work experience, and skill sets to connect them with suitable job listings in real time.
  • Scriptum – A dual-purpose AI that not only analyzes resumes to assess job compatibility but also helps users craft professional, well-structured resumes tailored to industry standards.
  • Sustineo – A responsive AI chatbot designed to provide personalized career advice, recommend job search strategies, and offer guidance on interview preparation and professional development.
  • Resource Hub – A curated collection of employment resources, including labor laws, upskilling programs, career workshops, and financial assistance options, ensuring users are well-equipped for the workforce.

  • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth – By leveraging AI and automation, Convergent enhances job accessibility, reduces hiring bias, and supports the employment of marginalized groups, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive labor market.
  • SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities – The platform promotes equal employment opportunities by removing barriers to job-seeking, ensuring individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities, have the same chance of securing fulfilling careers.

How I built it

  • Frontend: Developed using Next.js, React, and Tailwind CSS, ensuring a modern, responsive, and user-friendly interface tailored for seamless navigation and accessibility.
  • Backend: Built with Node.js and JavaScript, utilizing JSON for efficient data management and structuring AI-powered algorithms to process and match users with job opportunities.
  • Deployment & Storage: The platform is hosted on Vercel for easy deployment, with GitHub serving as the version control and collaborative development environment to manage updates and improvements.

Challenges I ran into

  • Establishing a seamless connection between the frontend and the JSON database proved challenging due to API integration constraints, requiring optimization for efficient data retrieval and processing.
  • Integrating a PDF parser to extract relevant resume information and ensure compatibility with the AI-powered resume analyzer was complex, as it needed to handle various file formats and structures.
  • Dependency issues arose when implementing certain packages, causing unexpected errors and requiring troubleshooting to maintain the stability and functionality of the system.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully expanding my AI knowledge by incorporating machine learning techniques to enhance job-matching accuracy and resume evaluation.
  • Deepening my expertise in UI/UX design by implementing best practices in React and Next.js, ensuring the platform remains visually appealing and user-friendly.
  • Overcoming technical challenges and completing the project within a set timeframe, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in software development.

What I learned

  • Gained a better understanding of how to properly implement "use client" in Next.js to optimize rendering performance and avoid unnecessary errors.
  • Learned how to effectively utilize ShadCN, a UI component library, to improve design consistency and enhance the overall aesthetics of the platform.
  • Strengthened my skills in routing and layout structuring within Next.js, ensuring seamless navigation and an intuitive user experience.

What's next for Convergent?

  • Implementing enhanced font customization features to improve readability and ensure accessibility for individuals with visual impairments or reading difficulties.
  • Developing a colorblind-friendly theme mode to provide an inclusive user experience for those with color vision deficiencies.
