Inspiration:

Captic began in games, building a browser-based, multiplatform 3D engine that has powered 10,000 experiences for independent creators and publicly listed companies. With "Lunar Base: System Override", we are proving that AI can turn one strong mechanic into a genuinely playable game in no time, creating processes and tools that scale game versions/variations and reach.

What it does:

Stranded in an abandoned lunar facility, players scavenge energy cells, evade sensor-equipped drones and choose whether to move and/or shoot. Restoring five sectors increases both capability and danger, leading to a final baddie drone encounter and, if successful, reconnection with Earth!

How we built it:

We combined our WebGL and game-development experience with prompt-led, AI-assisted Three.js production, keeping the portrait controls immediate and the resource loop deliberately simple.

Challenges we ran into:

The biggest challenge was restraint. The idea risked becoming a conventional stealth shooter, so we made energy allocation central: every advantage has a cost, and restoration intensifies the threat.

Accomplishments that we're proud of:

Using our own tech stack with AI, which proved native from a game dev POV. In addition, from a mere game design perspective, we made tactical choices the key, creating a fully-fledged browser-playable session with escalating patrols and a clear finale that's easy-to-understand for the player.

What we learned:

Restoration can create danger as well as progress. When powering the base also wakes its defenses, a simple choice becomes suspenseful and replayable without complicated controls or excessive content. Our tech, combined with AI, was surprisingly understandable when it comes to adapting some of the game design challenges we presented.

What's next for LUNAR BASE: SYSTEM OVERRIDE:

This is only the first emergency! Meta's early-access creation tools could unlock new facilities, complexity levels and cooperative roles. Captic's multiplayer foundation, AI-agent experience and rapid browser pipeline could support evolving cross-platform scenarios (incl. VR), with no download between players and the next mission. If successful, we could eventually incorporate multi-player versions.
