Inspiration

Construction projects rely on complex contracts that define responsibilities, payments, timelines, obligations, and risks. However, contract information is often fragmented across multiple documents and systems, while communication between contract and project management teams can be inefficient. This can delay decision-making, reduce contract visibility, and increase the risk of disputes, delays, and cost overruns. This challenge inspired us to build ContractHub AI, an AI-powered contract intelligence and management platform that helps construction teams better understand, monitor, and manage their contracts.

What it does

ContractHub AI transforms complex construction contracts into actionable insights. The platform combines contract management workflows with an AI Contract Assistant to help users: - Analyze contract clauses and identify potential risks

  • Review timelines, pricing, and contractual obligations
  • Track milestones, deadlines, and payments
    • Manage approvals, claims, and extension-of-time requests
  • Monitor contract performance through dashboards and reports
  • Ask questions about contract information using an AI assistant
    • Receive AI-generated insights and recommendations to support decision-making
  • Send automated alerts and reminders for upcoming deadlines, payments, milestones, and contractual obligations.

Instead of treating contracts as static documents, ContractHub AI helps teams continuously understand and monitor the information that matters throughout the contract lifecycle.

How we built it

We started by studying challenges in construction contract management through literature review and expert input. Based on the identified challenges, we designed a centralized platform that connects contract data, project information, monitoring workflows, and AI-assisted analysis. The platform includes modules for contract management, approvals, claims and extensions of time, financial management, reporting, performance monitoring, and AI-powered contract analysis. The AI layer supports risk assessment, clause analysis, timeline review, pricing analysis, and contract-related questions to help users make more informed decisions.

Challenges we faced

One of our biggest challenges was turning complex contractual information into clear and useful insights without overwhelming the user. We also had to connect different elements of contract management — including clauses, risks, milestones, payments, deadlines, and project progress — within one workflow. Another important challenge was ensuring that AI supports human decision-making rather than replacing professional judgment, especially when dealing with contractual risks and obligations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of turning our initial concept into a working prototype that combines contract management workflows with AI-powered contract intelligence. We developed an integrated platform that brings together contract management, approvals, claims and extension-of-time requests, financial monitoring, reporting, performance dashboards, and AI-assisted contract analysis. One of our key accomplishments is the AI Contract Assistant, which supports risk assessment, clause analysis, timeline and pricing review, and contract-related questions within the same platform. We are also proud that the platform was evaluated by 10 industry experts with experience in construction and contract management. Their feedback showed strong support for the platform's potential to improve contract visibility, stakeholder collaboration, early risk identification, and contract administration.

What we learned

learned that AI in contract management is most valuable when it goes beyond summarizing documents. The real opportunity is connecting contract language with project activities, obligations, risks, payments, and deadlines so that teams can identify important issues earlier and make better-informed decisions. We also learned the importance of presenting AI-generated insights in a clear and practical way that users can understand and act on.

What's next

Our next step is to strengthen ContractHub AI's contract intelligence capabilities and improve contextual contract analysis, proactive risk detection, and obligation monitoring. We also plan to expand testing with real-world construction contract scenarios and explore integrations with existing project and enterprise management systems.
