Inspiration

As a child, I was captivated by the world of imaginary games, crafting unique characters and scenarios with friends. Inspired by the possibilities of extended reality (XR), I envisioned bringing these vivid childhood games to life. "Contact Sniper" is an advanced rendition of our beloved game "Shootaro," where players are tasked with targeting and shooting in a narrative-driven format. The one who succeeds in hitting the target during their turn emerges victorious. "Contact Sniper" leverages gaming methodologies for its level design and storytelling, breathing new life into cherished memories.

What it does

"Contact Sniper" is a mixed reality game that starts in your own room, transforming your familiar space into the core of an immersive adventure. Upon starting the game, you meet an officer who tests your abilities to handle different "contracts." Each contract activates a portal transporting you to various locations, and it's here that weapons materialize in your room. Your mission is to neutralize threats through precise sniping and shooting based on the contract's requirements..

How we built it

Developed using Meta's SDK, including Passthrough, Mixed Reality Utility Kit, and Interaction SDK. Custom-designed guns with animations, reloading effects, and head-tracking scopes for realism. Story tailored to resonate with Gen Z audiences. Tutorial scene introduces weapon usage and game environment adaptation. Animations created using motion capture technology; UI built with Unity Canvas for contract selection

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have successfully built a prototype that has high throughput in custom gun and grenade shaping with reload. There will be a mixed reality virtual world opening at Keywall. We have implemented logic to manage the MRUK (Mixed Reality Urban Kit) room key wall to face towards the enemy, and to follow both the enemy and characters.

What we learned

As a newbie, everything is new to me. However, thanks to clear documentation, it is easy to learn and understand the concepts and implement them. After going through everything, I now have a clear understanding and implementation experience in Mixed Reality Utility Kit, Passthrough Light, Interaction SDK, Scene Understanding, and Voice SDK.

What's next for contract snipper

The game needs to have more complex levels with additional power and tools to complete them successfully. It would be helpful to have a small map view of the area, and the user should be able to unlock key walls from their desired location. The game can also benefit from immersive voice SDK interaction, better sound effects, and haptic feedback. It would also be great to have hand gestures to interact with power and tools. Furthermore, we need to brainstorm more to create compelling storylines and custom 3D assets that align with the storyline."
