Inspiration
The idea behind ContinuEd came from a problem that many college students experience: missing classes and struggling to catch up afterward. Students may miss lectures due to illness, personal commitments, or unexpected situations. When they return, collecting notes, understanding missed topics, completing assignments, and figuring out where to start can become overwhelming.
I wanted to build something that could make this process easier. Instead of letting students feel lost because they missed a few classes, I wanted to give them a clear path to continue learning at their own pace. This idea led to ContinuEd, a platform built around a simple belief: missing a class should not mean falling behind in learning.
What it does
ContinuEd is an academic continuity platform designed to help students catch up on missed classes without unnecessary stress. It brings learning resources, lecture notes, assignments, and important class updates together in one place.
The platform aims to use AI to generate summaries of missed lessons, explain difficult concepts in simpler language, and create personalized catch-up plans. Students can identify what they have missed, understand what needs their attention, and follow a structured learning path instead of trying to manage everything on their own.
The main goal is to make learning more flexible, organized, and accessible, even when students cannot attend every class.
How we built it
We approached ContinuEd by breaking the idea into smaller, practical features, starting with the student experience and the problem we wanted to solve.
Our planned technology stack includes React with Vite and Tailwind CSS for building a responsive frontend, Node.js and Express for backend services, and Supabase with PostgreSQL for authentication and data management. We also explored integrating an AI service such as Nebius AI to support lesson summaries, simplified explanations, and personalized study plans.
The focus throughout the planning process has been to create an interface that is easy to navigate and a system that can eventually bring class resources, academic tasks, and AI-powered learning assistance together.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was figuring out how to make ContinuEd different from existing learning platforms. Providing notes alone would not solve the actual problem because students also need help understanding missed topics and deciding what to study first.
Another challenge was planning how the frontend, backend, database, and AI features would work together without making the application complicated for students. We had to think about how to organize academic resources, personalize the learning experience, and keep the platform practical to use.
These challenges helped us look beyond individual features and focus on the complete journey of a student trying to catch up after missing a class.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of turning a common student problem into an idea with a clear purpose and practical potential. ContinuEd focuses on something that often gets overlooked: helping students recover their learning momentum after falling behind.
We are also proud of the way the project brings together academic organization and the potential of AI to create a more personalized learning experience. Rather than simply storing notes, ContinuEd aims to help students understand what they missed and take meaningful steps toward catching up.
Most importantly, we have a clear vision for a platform that puts students' needs first and makes continuing education feel more manageable.
What we learned
Working on ContinuEd helped us understand the importance of identifying a real problem before choosing technologies or designing features. We learned that a useful product needs to address not only what users need, but also the difficulties they face while trying to achieve it.
We also explored how full-stack web development, database management, and AI can work together to support a better learning experience. The process encouraged us to think about usability, feature planning, and how to turn an idea into a practical application.
One of our biggest takeaways was that technology has the greatest impact when it solves a genuine problem in a simple and meaningful way.
What's next for ContinuEd - Your Learning, Always in Continuity.
Our next goal is to turn ContinuEd into a functional platform where students can access missed-class resources, organize pending assignments, and follow personalized catch-up plans.
We want to explore features such as AI-generated notes and quizzes, multilingual explanations, learning progress tracking, teacher-shared resources, and personalized recommendations based on the topics a student needs to cover.
In the long term, we envision ContinuEd becoming a reliable academic companion that helps students learn at their own pace, manage interruptions, and stay connected with their education.
Because life does not always go according to plan, but learning should always have a way forward.
