Inspiration

We've all been there. Your colleague sends you a link to the newest version of their design, presentation or spreadsheet and expects you to give them feedback. You open it... and have absolutely zero idea what you're looking at.

Never again. Contextify lets you share your content while adding a super helpful context sidebar to really get your ideas across. Write down some notes, add an image or video or simply record a one-click Loom video.

What it does

Contextify lets you build a board with an embedded URL (iframe) with added rich-text editor and cover media which you can then share to anyone you like.

How we built it

I built this app using Next.js and Firebase.

Challenges we ran into

Technical limitations due to some providers disallowing embedding their website from other domains.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Getting this up and running without any backend or design skills.

What we learned

This app looked simple on paper but it was loads of work :)

What's next for Contextify

  • GIF replies in comments
  • Comment moderation and reporting
  • Since embedding some websites is technically not possible, I would like to add the possibility to automatically generate a screenshot for unsupported pages. APIs such as Embedly or Iframely could be useful here.
  • Improvements to rich-text editor
  • Board password protection (possible PRO feature)
  • Custom slug and domain support (possible PRO feature)
