Inspiration
Since I run a small math club, I felt it might motivate members to participate if they received rankings (Discord roles) based on their scores from the contests/homework we host.
What it does
The program extracts data from two CSV files, one for an individual contest and one for the overall ranking. Given this data, the program updates the overall ranking and outputs a new ranking CSV. Their points are also calculated using a function that would minimize the effect of easy-level problem farming.
How we built it
A bit of basic Java... it's honestly nothing spectacular since the Discord bot doesn't work yet.
Challenges we ran into
I had minimal experience with Python and no experience working with Discord bots. Also, this was my second project idea, so time was already running low when I start it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
None really, but I suppose the program does actually streamline my work a bit, so it's not a complete loss.
What we learned
A bit about making Discord bots... clearly I still have lots to learn.
What's next for Contest Ranking Discord Bot
- Actually implement the Discord Bot.
- Use the Google Sheets API so you don't need to manually download.
- Add commands for users to check their stats.
- Generalize the program more.
