Inspiration
Every year, global entertainment studios spend over $115 billion on content production. Yet 60% to 70% of films and streaming series fail to recoup their investments.
The traditional Hollywood greenlight process is broken: studios spend $50,000 to $200,000 and wait 4 to 6 weeks for consulting agencies to evaluate scripts. Even worse, the entire industry operates reactively. Evaluating scripts that have already been written, rather than listening to what audiences are actually starving for.
We asked: What if an autonomous AI agent could listen to real audience discourse across the internet, analyze millions of cultural data points, and tell studios what stories to greenlight before writing a single line of script? That vision became ContentOracle.
What it does
ContentOracle replaces weeks of costly Hollywood guesswork with 30 seconds of creative clarity for just $5 in compute.
When a studio executive or indie filmmaker asks: "What high-ROI film should we greenlight for 18-34 cinema audiences in Q4 2026?", ContentOracle autonomously executes a 4-step intelligence cycle:
- Live Discourse Harvesting: Extracts active audience discussions and sentiment from Reddit (r/boxoffice, r/movies, r/horror), Letterboxd, and X/Twitter using Google Gemini with Search Grounding.
- Big-Data OLAP Analytics: Queries and aggregates 10,000,000+ social and box office records in sub-50 milliseconds on GCP ClickHouse Cloud.
- Multi-Agent Deliberation: Orchestrates 5 specialized agents via the Google Agent Development Kit (google-adk) to analyze trend velocities, construct psychographic profiles, evaluate competitor market share (Cinema theatrical vs. Netflix, Disney+, Amazon), and locate underserved audience whitespace.
- Autonomous Greenlight Package: Synthesizes a structured strategy report complete with genre whitespace, budget tiers, projected ROI, comparable box office comps, and promotional timing. All rendered on a cinematic Sci-Fi Brutalist Tactical HUD.
How we built it
ContentOracle is powered by a high-throughput, enterprise partner stack:
- Google Gemini 2.5 & Vertex AI: Enterprise foundation model providing deep strategic reasoning, multimodal analysis, and live web search grounding.
- Google Agent Development Kit (google-adk): Orchestrates the multi-agent deliberation pipeline using FunctionTool calls, context management, and strict schema validation against Pydantic models.
- ClickHouse Cloud on GCP Marketplace: High-performance analytical columnar database deployed in asia-southeast1 over native TLS (port 8443). Houses 10,001,000+ social media and box office records, partitioned by month (toYYYYMM) with an automated 90-Day Native TTL (created_at + INTERVAL 90 DAY).
- TMDB API (v4 Bearer Auth): Real-time box office financials, historical budget benchmarks, and cast metadata.
- Frontend Strategy Terminal: Built with React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Recharts, and Lucide Icons, crafted in an immersive Sci-Fi Brutalist aesthetic inspired by cinematic command centers.
- Backend API Server: High-concurrency async FastAPI backend with Docker and Docker Compose containerization.
Challenges we ran into
- Scaling to 10M+ Records with Low Latency: Ingesting and querying 10 million detailed sentiment records while keeping agent tool execution under 100ms was a major engineering hurdle. We solved this by leveraging ClickHouse Cloud's columnar MergeTree engine, custom primary index keys, and automated 90-day partition pruning.
- Cloud OLAP Dialect Quirks: Adapting local ClickHouse SQL schemas to ClickHouse Cloud required resolving specific cloud engine constraints, such as reverse key sorting restrictions in ORDER BY clauses and strict TLS enforcement (secure=True).
- Eliminating Agent Hallucinations: In strategic decision-making, loose agent outputs are fatal. We leveraged Google ADK's strict output_schema and Pydantic validation to enforce a rock- solid contract between Gemini and our frontend telemetry radar.
- Live Search Grounding Synthesis: Harmonizing real-time, unstructured text from social threads (Reddit/Letterboxd) with structured historical box office metrics into a coherent financial recommendation.
Accomplishments
- 10 Million Records in the Cloud: Successfully populated and indexed 10,001,000 rows in ClickHouse Cloud on GCP Marketplace, achieving an astonishing ~35.4 MiB compressed footprint and sub-second aggregations.
- Native 90-Day Auto-Retention Policy: Implemented an automated TTL policy on ClickHouse Cloud that continuously purges expired records during background merge cycles, guaranteeing zero storage bloat as live streaming harvests ingest new posts.
- Google ADK Multi-Agent Orchestration: Built a modular, production-ready multi-agent framework that seamlessly falls back to deterministic analysis if network conditions change, ensuring the system never hard-crashes.
- Historical Accuracy Validation: Tested and validated ContentOracle against landmark entertainment inflection points (correctly projecting Squid Game for Netflix 2020, The Mandalorian for Disney+ 2019, and high-margin IMAX Sci-Fi Horror for Cinema 2026).
- Cinematic Tactical HUD: Designed and deployed a tactile, dark-mode terminal that makes big-data film analytics feel powerful, memorable, and intuitive.
What I learned
- OLAP + LLMs are a great pair. Combining Google Gemini's reasoning capabilities with ClickHouse Cloud's sub-second OLAP aggregations transforms raw social noise into actionable executive strategy.
- Google ADK simplifies complex agent workflows: Structured tool definitions, schema enforcement, and tool contexts make multi-agent systems significantly more reliable than freeform prompting.
- Parallel.ai just built different in terms of web search. Compare to just using gemini web search, parallel.ai really helps to give the better result of the web search, that can make the agent easier to understand what is the context of the problem, and it also runs much faster.
What's next for ContentOracle
- Autonomous Script Treatment Generator: Generating 5-page cinematic treatments, loglines, and visual moodboards based directly on greenlight recommendations.
- AI Talent & Director Matchmaker: Forecasting box office multipliers and audience draw by evaluating actor-director chemistry and audience affinity scores.
- Theatrical Windowing & Distribution Simulator: Simulating financial returns across different release windows (IMAX PLF exclusive vs. 45-day theatrical vs. Day-and-Date streaming).
- Studio Multi-Tenant SaaS: Expanding the platform for production companies, streaming distributors, and sales agents at major film markets (Cannes, AFM, Sundance).
