Inspiration

We wanted to turn a simple idea into a structured creative workflow that is easier to plan, document, and present. Many creators have strong ideas, but they struggle to estimate effort, compare their concept with existing work, and package the making process into a compelling final piece. Content-Buddy was inspired by that gap.

What it does

Content-Buddy helps a creator analyze their idea before production by showing top-k similar works already made, ranked using signals like platform popularity and visibility. It also estimates the approximate cost and time required to create the content, so the creator can decide whether the project is feasible and how to execute it efficiently.

How we built it

We built a prototype that starts with a project idea and converts it into a content-planning workflow. The system is designed to compare the idea against existing examples, surface inspiration links, and generate a realistic estimate of materials, effort, and production time. The final output also supports documenting both the creative process and the completed painting as a presentation-ready story.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was defining a meaningful way to compare creative works across different platforms, since popularity signals are not always consistent. Another challenge was estimating cost and time realistically for a project that can vary based on style, medium, and production quality. We also needed to balance creative freedom with structured planning.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We transformed a vague artistic idea into a practical content-planning system. The project makes it easier to validate an idea before investing time and materials, and it helps creators present their process in a more professional and compelling way. The prototype also supports both inspiration research and project estimation in one place.

What we learned

We learned that creative projects become much easier to execute when they are broken into research, planning, making, and presentation stages. We also learned that creators benefit from seeing both inspiration and feasibility before starting. Most importantly, we saw that process documentation can be just as valuable as the final artwork.

What's next for content-buddy

Next, Content-Buddy could support more content types beyond paintings, such as digital art, short-form videos, and design projects. It could also improve its ranking system, provide better cost models for different mediums, and generate automated project briefs or presentation summaries for creators.
