Inspiration

We were inspired by research done showing that consumers in Uganda were not being told the true cost of a loan by financial service providers in Uganda. Inexperienced customers received even less transparent information.

What it does

Users sign up for text message tips. Users download app and receive tips as push notifications. App includes: Consumer rights, Financial Education (Fact sheets and basic how-tos and terminology to look for), Local financial service offering, User ratings of financial service institutions.

Users with basic cell phones can sign up to receive weekly text message tips on consumer rights, things to look for in financial products, how to compare financial organizations and general financial literacy education.

Smartphone users can download the app, which will offer tips as push notifications. This information can also be referenced through fact sheets, FAQs, and checklists that walk users through what to do when considering a loan. Local financial service organizations will be listed with the products and rates they offer, as well as ratings and reviews from users who have used their products. This will enable users to compare options before committing to a decision.
