Inspiration

Our primary source of inspiration stems from refugees in Syria, Yemen, Rohingya, Sub-Saharan Africa, Sudan, Iraq, Ukraine, and worldwide, including the recent events in Gaza.
Analyzing the statistics has heightened our awareness of the severity of the situation. So, we sought to create something in order to lend a helping hand and streamline the means for others to provide support as well.

What it does

Haven is a decentralized application (Dapp) designed to assist refugees in paying rental expenses in the countries where they have sought refuge. Users have the option to donate funds to support refugees in paying their rent, while property owners can list their properties for rent.

How we built it

Our project development journey unfolded in the following sequence:

  1. Ideation: Brainstorming and idea exploration
  2. Conception: Defining features, creating UML diagrams
  3. UI/UX Design: Crafting the user interface
  4. Implementation: Developing smart contracts and front-end code

Challenges we ran into

The most significant hurdle we faced revolved around integrating various components. As newcomers to blockchain project development, we encountered difficulties in connecting the smart contract to the front-end. Additionally, our attempt to utilize a database for storing non-essential off-chain data to minimize storage costs proved to be less successful.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Making it this far and submitting our solution is by far our biggest accomplishment. We are glad that we could develop a functioning front-end and smart contract.

What we learned

During the hackathon, we acquired valuable experience in collaborative teamwork, time management, and thriving under pressure. Additionally, we familiarized ourselves with Figma, honed our programming skills in React.js, and delved into smart contract development using Foundry. Furthermore, we explored Chainlink technologies, including price feeds and automation, for the first time.This journey also served as a platform for enhancing our editing skills encompassing advanced editing techniques, visual effects, and storytelling.

Our next step involves finishing all the remaining incomplete pieces.
