Inspiration
Instead of doom scrolling in social media, some of us just wanna go to our favorite online marketplace and add items to our cart. Maybe even checkout those items once in a while. It's almost like therapy. Like going to Ikea and window shopping.
What it does
We built a safe haven for consumers that love to do just that by building an online marketplace that is safe for our pockets! Has all the thrill and excitement of browsing items, adding them to our carts, and actually buying them without the downside of less money for the users.
Everything in the shop is also generated so you're able to shop for even for the most exotic items you can think of.
How we built it
Using React in the frontend and Node on the backend. We had Codex tell us all about dark patterns in the marketplace. We picked the ones we liked and added it to ours. We wanted it to be close to the real thing as possible. We also used Codex and 5.6 to heavily iterate on the design until we landed on the one we all liked.
Challenges we ran into
- AI image gen was expensive so we had to switch to generating SVGs instead
- High output commits and stepping on each others toes (we finally figured out we can just ask Codex for help on this as well)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Caching generated products so similar search queries can just show the already generated items
- Juicy interactions
- Non AI slop UI / UX
- Our backend person got deep into economy for the marketplaces at the end of the hackathon
What we learned
- Working together in the age of AI at such a rapid pace.
- Letting Codex handle the merge conflicts from the three of us pushing code all the time
What's next for Consoom
- Make interactions even more juicy
- Polish up the last-mile fullfilment of products
- being able to interact with other users
- ship the thaang
Built With
- codex
- node.js
