Inspiration
We love animals and want to help people understand why certain animals are becoming endangered. Inspired by the World Wildlife Fund, we created a website to enrich public awareness on these endangered species.
What it does
It is a chatbot that creates a space for conversation between the user and the website to explore facts on endangered species.
How we built it
We built it using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge we ran into was figuring out how to make the chatbot. This was a completely new experience, as we've never made a chatbot before. In addition, it was stressful but engaging to work under a time constraint. The time constraint was especially difficult because we accidentally broke our code with just a few hours left in the hackathon. That's when we realized the importance of version control. We quickly switched back into an older version of the code and more slowly but more carefully completed the rest of the project. Overall, we are glad to have had the opportunity to develop our knowledge in coding through this competition.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have had the chance to showcase our care for the endangered species and develop a further understanding of how to make a dynamic website with a functional chatbot that identifies keywords to respond to the user's questions.
What we learned
We learned how to make a chatbot, what the experience of a hackathon was like for the first time, and how to collaborate with each other remotely and under the stress of a time constraint.
What's next for Conservation Conversation
We hope to add more information on other endangered species than the ones we have included so far. We also hope in the future to stylize the UI to be more organized. More importantly, we hope that the website will be used by more users to promote awareness of the endangered species that we believe are critical to our ecosystems and the history of our planet.
