Inspiration Reddit is one of the most fascinating places on the internet because every community has its own personality, instincts, and “group mind.” We wanted to build a daily game that could only exist on Reddit — something that doesn’t just test individual skill, but taps into the social fabric of subreddits. Consensus was inspired by a simple question: Can Reddit agree… for once? We loved the idea of turning Reddit’s comment culture, debates, and collective opinions into a daily ritual game. What it does Consensus is a daily social prediction puzzle built directly into Reddit using Devvit Interactive Posts. Every day, the community receives one fresh question with multiple choices. Players: Pick the answer they personally believe Predict which answer the subreddit will choose the most Discuss their reasoning in the comments The next day, results are revealed with: Vote breakdowns The winning “Reddit consensus” Points, streaks, and leaderboards The game creates a recurring daily challenge that drives conversation, humor, and subreddit self-awareness. How we built it We built Consensus using Devvit Web to create a mobile-first interactive post experience. Key parts of the build include: React-based UI for answer selection, prediction, and daily reveal Devvit Storage (KV) to persist votes, predictions, streaks, and scores A daily reset system that rotates prompts and locks in results every 24 hours A user-generated prompt pipeline, allowing players to submit future questions that mods can approve Optional polish via GameMaker animations for daily reveal moments and streak celebrations The result is a Reddit-native daily game that feels seamless inside the feed. Challenges we ran into Building a daily game for Reddit came with unique challenges: Designing a UI that feels natural inside an Interactive Post, especially on mobile Preventing duplicate submissions while keeping gameplay frictionless Balancing simplicity (one daily prompt) with long-term replayability Creating a daily mechanic that encourages discussion instead of silent voting Building a UGC system that stays fun while remaining safe and moderatable Making the experience feel “launch-ready” required a lot of attention to polish and clarity. Accomplishments that we're proud of We’re especially proud that Consensus: Feels uniquely native to Reddit’s culture and comment-driven energy Creates a true daily ritual mechanic with recurring prompts and reveals Turns subreddit psychology into gameplay, sparking debate and humor Enables meaningful user contributions, letting the community shape future challenges Delivers a clean, mobile-first experience optimized for Reddit’s primary audience Has strong potential for long-term sustainability through endless community-generated content What we learned This project taught us that the best Reddit games aren’t just about mechanics — they’re about community behavior. We learned how powerful it is when: The comments become part of the game Players return not just for points, but to see what Reddit did Subreddit identity becomes the “meta puzzle” Devvit’s Interactive Posts open up an entirely new design space where games can live directly inside conversations. What's next for Consensus Next, we want to expand Consensus into a full daily Reddit ecosystem, including: Subreddit-specific prompt packs (r/movies, r/tech, r/sports, etc.) Weekly recap posts highlighting the most surprising community choices More progression rewards like flairs and badges Enhanced GameMaker-driven animations for reveal moments Community-versus-community “Consensus Battles” Premium cosmetic layers through Reddit’s Payments APIs (future) Our goal is for Consensus to become a daily tradition across Reddit — a game where the real challenge is understanding the hive mind.
