Inspiration

Fast-fashion industries have overtaken consumerism and the fashion space over the past decade and even more with the rise of TikTok, fast-fashion has boomed in the women's fashion sector as trends come and go. The need for more sustainable shopping comes as a growing needing with landfills filling up with discarded fast fashion items and the hand in hand effect in climate change. With the inspiration to push more second-hand clothing and to create a fun and assessable way for women to shop more sustainable and merge fashion inspiration, we created the game ConsciousCloset.

What it does

ConsciousCloset is a virtual web game that allows the user to customize an avatar of themselves to then further allow them to search for an outfit to the occasion of their need and visualize it on their avatar. The user is then able switch items in and out as they choose until they get the outfit of their liking. From there they have the ability to shopping those items on our second-hand site, Thread-up, side by side of their avatar, where they can be redirected to where to purchase those items if they choose to. What makes ConsciousCloset unique is the users ability to play a game that not only makes visualizing outfits fun, but also ties in the capability to purchase those items in a second-hand sustainable way. ConsciousClosets mission is to combat fast-fashions destruction on climate and allow women to let their conscious run !

How we built it

ConsciousCloset was built using only HTML and CSS to create the web front of our site with some help of Gen AI to assist in troubleshooting. As well as using Figma to create a the visual mock up of our page front. One of our team members focused on creating all the drawings for the character she designed. Another team member focused on the UX aspect of the overall web page. The rest of the team focused on building out the webpage and its functional aspects.

Challenges we ran into

Some of the challenges we faced were having the lack of full stack development to create a more functioning web page. Although we quickly pivoted to deciding on creating our vision through a more basic approach of front end development with just HTML and CSS.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are most proud of how we as a team of four were able to work together in creating a game that upholds our goal and mission to solving a problem we felt passionate about. We also are proud of how we communicated through our problems we came across the way and learned and adapted to solving those challenges. Considering as well that 3/4 of our team members were either competing for their first time in a hackathon or this being their second, we are incredibly proud of how were put ourselves out their to come tho RoseHacks and create a project that we believed in.

What we learned

Through this process we learned that shopping for clothes on online thrift platforms can be challenging. Finding specific items, understanding sizing and fit, and navigating the vast inventory can be time-consuming and sometimes frustrating. This highlights the need for tools and features that simplify the online thrifting experience, such as improved search filters, better sizing information, and visual search capabilities.

What's next for ConsciousCloset

We aim to expand ConsciousCloset into a fully functional web application. This will involve incorporating backend technologies like JavaScript (with frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular) and a database to store user data, inventory, and facilitate online purchases. We plan to leverage AI to enhance the user experience. This could include personalized outfit recommendations based on user preferences and style, AI-powered image search to find similar items on ThreadUp, and even virtual try-on features using augmented reality (AR).
