Inspiration
We were inspired by the daily struggles that people with mental illnesses go through. The most difficult of these struggles is that you cannot see a mental illness.
What it does
Conscious provides information on depression, anxiety, and common eating disorders. Specifically, it can inform users on what each mental illness is, symptoms, and how to find help.
How we built it
After doing research, we used HTML and CSS to design a website showcasing the notes from our sources. We use a Python Flask app controller and Heroku to deploy it.
Challenges we ran into
Initially, we weren't sure which mental health issues we were going to discuss, but we narrowed it down to some common ones. We had difficultly actually deploying the site on Heroku, but eight google searches later and we have deployed our app. We also wanted to incorporate more backend into the site, but did not have enough time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are extremely proud of just being able to create a site in a day and a half, especially since we barely knew each other beforehand. The site also has a few lines of javascript that took us a while.
What we learned
Most of what we learned was HTML and CSS skills, but more importantly, we got to educate ourselves on mental health.
What's next for conscious
We hope to make conscious much more personalized and closer to our original vision. We want to add in mini games that ease the mind and the ability for users to create goals for themselves.
Conscious was created with love by Javeria Jalil, Jessica Dai, Katie Jiang, Mimi Zhang, and Olly Ogbue
