Inspiration

Inspired by the ongoing problem of thousand of yearly deaths due to drunk-driving accidents. Innocent lives are lost by the consequence of impaired thinking caused by alcohol. A person can't fully control a car in this state and put his life and other in danger.

What it does

A device that prevents someone under the effects of alcohol to drive. The device combines the functionality of an alcoholmeter and a car anti robbery lock. This should be assemble before the person the gets out of the car, so that when they come back to the car there is now something that is stopping them from driving directly under that state. The device takes an alcoholmeter test, which determines the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) and is represented by a percentage. If the person is above this limit (0.08%) the device will remain lock. This lock prevents them from moving the steering wheel and accelerator pedal. This way it stops the person from driving under that state.

How we built it

It is built by an alcohol sensor that acts as the detection system, an LCD screen to display the information, the reaction system is a motor which will be in charge of unlocking or not the device. And finally all of this is control by the microcontroller board Arduino

Challenges we ran into

It was very limiting and challenging too make it work entirely with the missing electronic components. The sensor needed a calibration of 24-48 hours which wasn't able to do be done due to the hackathon time, nevertheless still gave precise results.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Being able to manage the electronic and programming part of the project at the same time. Including something retro presentation inspired with neon lights

What we learned

Learn to use new electronic elements

What's next for Conscious Driver

Trying it with a motor and add more features like sending SMS.
