Inspiration

We were inspired to connect students back to their childhood through something they spend most of their time doing - studying. By making studying more social, engaging, and turning campus into a real-life adventure map, ConQuest motivates students to connect with their peers while connecting back to the joys of their youth.

What it does

ConQuest is a web app that lets students "conquer" real-life study spots on campus by spending focused time there. Users earn points, get 2x rewards for studying with friends, and compete to dominate the map. Locations are ranked by the community: the more popular the spot, the harder it is to conquer.

How we built it

We used React with Vite for the frontend, Leaflet for the interactive campus map, and Firebase for real-time data syncing and user tracking. The map updates as users study and rank spots, and dynamic difficulty scaling adjusts conquest requirements based on rankings.

Challenges we ran into

  • Implementing the fantasy themed-map with real-life markers
  • Handling real-time data updates and syncing user locations

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • A functional prototype with live map interaction
  • Social features like 2x points with friends and real-time progress
  • A clean, intuitive UI that resembles a game

What we learned

  • How to work with mapping libraries and geolocation in React
  • Strategies for gamifying productivity without sacrificing usability
  • Importance of quick user feedback and iterative design

What's next for ConQuest

  • Mobile app version for on-the-go tracking
  • QR codes at study spots for easier check-ins
  • Group challenges, school-wide leaderboards, and quarter-long competitions
