Inspiration
Due to the prolonged pandemic, people are increasingly feeling isolated, which is likely to worsen their mental health. At times like this, even doing one small thing can seem challenging. When that happens, you can feel much better if you get up and do small tasks one by one, such as opening a window, taking a shower, or taking a short walk outside. We started with this idea and created an app that assigns small tasks based on our mental health.
What it does
Conquer, as the name suggests, helps users take care of themselves, conquer their day and improve their mental health. It asks you questions about your daily mental health. You select answers from 0-5, and the app analyzes your answers and suggests "tasks" for each day that benefits your mental health. For example, taking a walk for 10 minutes, talking to a friend, exercising, etc. If you complete a task, you can earn points, and if you collect a certain amount of points, money gets donated to charity. It gives the user hope that they are helping others by helping themselves and encourages them to complete more tasks and make their day healthier. In the long run, they can feel accomplished, which further motivates them to wake up the next day to complete more tasks, ensuring overall mental and physical wellbeing.
How we built it
We used React Native to build cross-platform application. We deployed it on web using Netlify so that judges easily check the app. For prototyping, we used Figma.
Challenges we ran into
Since we're beginners with a time limit, it was challenging to implement everything we wanted to. For example, we couldn't apply sentiment analysis to our app, which will further analyze their thoughts and give them resources based on their thoughts.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Even though the four team members were in different time zones, we made a great result together by actively communicate about each part of the project and fulfill our respective roles.
What we learned
We learned that in to implement ideas and features in a limited time, we should set priorities. We also learned that it's a good idea to start the deliverables one by one, but process and finish them all in parallel.
What's next for Conquer - Daily Mental Health App
Currently, only the front-end part is implemented, so our goal is to develop the back-end as well, and we would like to develop the feature that allows the user to write their feelings freely and the app analyzes it using sentiment analysis and recommends the appropriate task.
