Inspiration

While every generation has had its own battles which led to career-related struggles, Gen Z has seen the effects of a global pandemic, recession, war, inflation, weakened economies, and more.

The majority of university students today lack guidance and direction to determine which career opportunities are a good fit for them. This is collectively why the majority of GenZ does not have confidence in the economy, or the stability of the job market.

In fact, 77% of GenZ report constantly looking for a new job, which is more than double of generations before them. There are too many disconnects on both the student-side and recruiter-side, leading to frustrations that can (and do) get costly. As the saying goes, modern problems require modern solutions.

ConnectUs bridges the gap between university students and recruiters, by providing a seamless opportunity matchmaking experience.

What it does

ConnectUs provides a familiar and fun interface for students and recruiters, of swiping through companies, opportunities and candidates—from both sides, to make a match.

Students can explore companies, and anonymously show interest in opportunities with a single swipe. Recruiters can easily access, connect, and engage with a pool of qualified candidates for internships and entry-level positions

How we built it

ConnectUs is a mobile-first application developed using Dart and Flutter framework supporting both iOS and Android platforms. Data is being provided via RESTful API as a backend which will be published to RapidAPI marketplace in the future.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Naturally, we are proud of the working prototype of ConnectUs that was built in such a short amount of time, and the camaraderie that took place behind-the-scenes through the course of the hackathon. On a grander scale, we are proud of having identified a real need in the recruitment, and early career development space, and developing a solution that is as enjoyable as it is impactful.

What we learned

We picked up on the tacit knowledge associated with the struggles that recruiters face in identifying and recruiting top talent to fill entry-level positions. This translated onto development efforts in creating a user-friendly experience with a fun and familiar interface that would be received well by university students, while simultaneously saving recruiters hassle and time.

What's next for ConnectUs

We will work on incorporating deeper AI integrations into ConnectUs, to increase the efficiency and enjoyment-factor of the opportunity matchmaking process for both students and recruiters. In parallel, we will also explore partnerships to enhance the user experience, and further expand our offerings to empower students in the early stages of their career.
