Inspiration
During pandemic, a large section of society was affected badly.Many people lost their livelihoods and couldn't provide for themselves. People couldn't afford basic commodities. Food is most vital entity required for human survival. To provide a solution and help people suffering from food shortage we came up with this idea of ConnectToHelp.
What it does
We have build a website that will help an user to connect to nearby Food banks in one easy click. If a user is aware about the areas where people are facing hunger problems ,then they can just choose that location after which a list of all the nearby Food banks will be displayed to the user.If the user is willing to contact the Food banks then they can connect through the details provided by us or else they can let us know and we go ahead with the reporting of the same.The website also has a donate section where in a user can donate.
How we built it
For front-end we used html5, css3, javascript and react-js. For back-end we used node-js,express.js For database we used mongodb atlas
Challenges we ran into
This was our first experience in building a full stack website.So the issues we encountered were firstly we faced linking issues where linking the back-end and front-end were a big challenge.Then we also faced version control issues.Getting required data including foodbank data was a challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Solving the above mentioned challenges as well as learning more about the different technologies we used is one of our accomplishments.
What we learned
In terms of technical perspective, we learnt about mongodb atlas,advanced topics of reactjs,nodejs and expressjs.
What's next for ConnectToHelp
For future scope we can add payment gateway in donate section. We can provide communication platform where user can have real-time chat with foodbank. We can also add live location feature where user can directly check for foodbanks available in the area.There is also scope for making android application of the website.
