Inspiration
Living in Cupertino, we saw the countless nursing homes with dementia wards for elders. While we always thought of these homes as a safe place for folks with dementia, we wondered what happened to those who couldn't afford such assisted living. How would they be able to perform basic tasks and connect with their loved ones without help? That's when we came up with the idea of Connect Now, an app that bridges the gap between people with dementia and their loved ones, as well as provides them with help regarding basic tasks. This way, they can also experience the retired life they deserve, with life with dementia made easier.
What it does
Our app has multiple features including, a journal, a contact list, and a food monitor that contains a a voice recording that gives an in- detail step-by-step instructions on how to cook a basic meal.
How we built it
We coded using Java on the VSCode IDE.
Challenges we ran into
- Swing Layout for UI Design
- Trouble in making the app appleaing
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to allow the user to listen to out own voice recordings
What we learned
We learned how to add a feature that shows time and can correspond meals with it
What's next for ConnectNow
We want to add the following features:
- Allow of the user to add in their own contacts
- Make push notifications for daily task reminders
- Add more menu options
