Inspiration
The theme of MuleHacks inspired us to develop a game about social connections.
What it does
It tells the story of social connections. Specifically, the benefits and struggles of connecting with others. Our project uses dots to represent people and string connections to represent how they are connected.
How we built it
We developed Connections using Javascript and HTML as our tech stack. This was our first project developed in JS, so we utilized Claude to assist with more complex programming logic and debugging.
Challenges we ran into
The first immediate challenge in creating Connections was setting up our coding environment. We struggled to resolve dependency issues with our first-choice IDE. We also struggled with integrating our IDE to Git, as this was our first time working with Git together. Finally, an unexpected challenge was developing a project idea. A large technical challenge was our lack of familiarity with Javascript, since this was our first time building a project in the language. We encountered more syntax errors than expected. However, a goal of our project was to challenge ourselves to learn a new language, which Connections definitely did.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of several things. First, this was our first hackathon, so we are excited and proud to be able to present a functional game. Second, this was our first time working together on a technical project, and we developed ways to work together both technically and by dividing the workload.
What we learned
- JavaScript
- Debugging with Claude
- Git and Git Repos
- Pair programming
- DevPost
- Hackathon culture and strategies ## What's next for Connections - The Networking Game Next for Connections is more complex and engaging gameplay. The next major feature add is developing random level generation. This makes replaying the game more fun and challenging.
