ConnectHub Rwanda: Bridging Services and Communities

Genesis of ConnectHub Rwanda

ConnectHub Rwanda emerged from an analysis of the challenges and inefficiencies encountered when accessing some services in Rwanda. Our initiative aimed to close the service accessibility gap, inspired by two personal experiences within our group. One member, in urgent need of a medication named "sekalgic," struggled to locate it in nearby pharmacies. It took him from Gikondo to Nyabugogo, causing him to miss a morning class. This incident highlighted a broader issue: the difficulty in locating specific medications, such as diabetes tablets, in Rwanda. Motivated by this, we decided to incorporate a pharmacy hub into our project. Another group member faced a similar challenge with car repair. His vehicle had brake problems, and without knowing where to seek help, he endured a two-week wait for repairs. This led to the birth of a new hub in our system called E-Garage Rwanda. These experiences underscored the need for a more efficient system to connect people with essential services, which became a core focus of ConnectHub Rwanda.

The Build of ConnectHub Project

The ConnectHub Rwanda project involved gaining deep insights into different service sectors, understanding the unique challenges faced by our group members, and exploring technological solutions to address these challenges. A significant part of this learning was understanding the user's perspective - what they would need, how they access services, and what would make their experience more efficient and satisfying

Building ConnectHub Rwanda was a multi-faceted process:

  1. Research: The first step was conducting thorough research to understand the specific needs and pain points in each service sector we added to our Hub.

  2. Technology Integration: The next phase focused on selecting and integrating the right technology to build a robust, scalable, and user-friendly platform. This involved decisions on database management, interface design, and ensuring real-time functionality.

  3. User Interface Design: A major focus was on designing an intuitive and accessible interface. This was crucial, as the platform was intended for users with varying levels of tech-savviness.

  4. Pilot Testing and Feedback: Before the full-scale launch, pilot testing was conducted to gather user feedback, which was instrumental in refining the platform.

Challenges Faced

Building a platform like ConnectHub Rwanda was not without its challenges:

  1. Data Integration: We were unable to gather real-time data and conduct a survey to add pharmacies and medication due to lack of enough time, and this remains our goal to gather the correct data.

  2. User Engagement: Creating a platform that was not only functional but also engaging for users required continuous iteration and feedback incorporation. In the development of ConnectHub Rwanda, we wished that we would add user reviews on our platform. Since the platform has not yet launched, this also remains our goal to incorporate user feedback, which will help us to grow our platform daily.

  3. Scalability: Designing a system that could easily scale and incorporate additional services in the future posed both technical and strategic challenges.

  4. Adapting to Different Sectors: Bridging the gap in accessing services is a continuing process, and we aim to add more and more features since we were unable to implement some of our thoughts due to prioritizing the demo.

Learning Journey

ConnectHub Rwanda's journey began with challenges in accessing services in Rwanda, inspiring the creation of a centralized platform. Built with web technologies and AI, it aims to streamline service access. The team faced data integration and scalability issues yet remained focused on user needs, evolving the platform to serve the community better.

Way forward

ConnectHub Rwanda is a testament to the power of technology in bridging the gap between essential services and the community. It started with a vision to simplify access to healthcare and automotive services and will keep evolving into a platform with the potential to encompass various other sectors. The project has been a journey of continuous learning, adapting, and overcoming challenges, all while keeping the focus on the needs and experiences of the users. As ConnectHub Rwanda grows, it stands as a beacon of innovation and community service, paving the way for a more connected and efficient Rwanda.
