Inspiration

Our inspiration for ConnectHer stemmed from seeing how many women around the world are unable to pursue their passions in STEM due to physical barriers, such as needing to travel to access resources, and social barriers, particularly in male-dominated fields. As women ourselves, we recognized how sciences often require in-person presence to learn effectively. This drove us to create a platform that removes these limitations, allowing young girls to explore STEM opportunities from the comfort of their own homes.

What it does

ConnectHer is designed to be a beneficial resource hub that equips young girls and women with the resources and opportunities they need to explore and thrive in STEM fields. Our platform features accessible virtual museum exhibits, a skill swap page, and an AR demo aimed at inspiring the next generation of female innovators.

How we built it

We built our project by researching and collaborating in a Google doc to brainstorm ideas. Then we moved to Figma to design our UI. We used Glitch to code our website in html and css. Utilizing Google MyMaps, we created a custom map for our museum page. We also used a javascript library to create our AR Demo.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges we faced during the project was integrating a map feature into the website. Initially, we spent over 3 hours trying to implement it, but nothing seemed to work. Despite this, we persevered, researched alternative methods, and ultimately found a way to achieve the desired result. This experience taught us valuable lessons about persistence, creative problem-solving, and adapting to challenges as they arise.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Overall, we are proud of integrating STEM concepts and learning experiences into an easy to access website for girls in STEM everywhere.

What we learned

Through this project, we learned that building a resourceful platform requires more than just technical skills; it demands a deep understanding of the users' needs and finding innovative ways to overcome the barriers that exist in real life. This journey has inspired us to continue advocating for accessible learning experiences and to break the barriers that hold women back from exploring STEM fields.

What's next for ConnectHer

We hope that our project will continue to inspire and empower girls pursuing their goals in STEM.
