Inspiration
We were inspired by the fact that a lot women in tech feel overshadowed in the workforce, and a result of this is not feeling encouraged to apply for jobs, continue to increase your skillset, etc. We wanted to create a space where women and allies can connect seamlessly with employers and each other to create a welcoming environment in tech.
What it does
Our platform is designed with a range of features to cater to the unique needs of women in the tech industry. We include networking opportunities, skill enhancement tools, career development tools, and the ability to showcase achievements.
How we built it
We used HTML/CSS/Javascript to create the websites functionality and appearance. Specifically we used Vue.js and Node.js to create a more streamlined and easy to navigate codebase.
Challenges we ran into
We were not very familiar with Vue or Node, so we had to search up lengthy tutorials on how to do what seemed like simple tasks. This took up a good chunk of the time we could've been using actually coding, but it helped up immensely down the line.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating a website within 24 hours; we've never done this before and a few of us have never been to a hackathon before this. We're proud of learning new technologies and applying it to create a functional product.
What we learned
We learned how to use Vue and Node to create a website and host it locally on our computer, along with styling properties of websites and how HTML works semantically. We also learned routing and lazy-loading.
What's next for ConnectHer
We want to create a user log in/sign up functionality along with more options for users to create courses/employment opportunities themselves since we're using simulated data at this point. We want to add a functionality that allows users to chat with each other as well.
