As consumers increasingly depend on mobility solutions throughout their daily life, the ability to make payments is becoming a key component of that mobility. Many payments are conducted either in conjunction with the use of a vehicle or while a consumer is driving. Such payments include paying for tolls on toll roads or exiting a garage or parking lot. Others could include paying for products such as food at a fast food restaurant or pharmaceuticals at a drugstore. Leveraging a Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) infrastructure to provide payment connectivity between the vehicle and infrastructure could help improve service for vehicle operators and increase revenues to support both highways and businesses. As automakers integrate interaction with smartphones into the vehicle and mobile wallets become a key component of smartphones, integration to the mobile wallet through both the in-vehicle connectivity solution and DSRC to the external environment could facilitate a payment ecosystem for vehicles.
