As a team of four students, we know firsthand the difficulties in making social connections in an online learning environment. We wanted to create a virtual learning environment where students could break the ice more efficiently and connect. Besides that, one of my teammates works as a student instructor, and we wanted to create an environment where students would feel more comfortable reaching out for help from their instructors.
What it does
ConnectEd is a website that aims to connect learning by providing a learning environment with a built-in messaging feature and profile system. ConnectEd allows students to build social connections to harness their academic potential more readily.
How we built it
First, we understood the problem we were trying to solve to define our audience. We then proceeded to determine our value position and prioritized our Minimum Viable Product. Finally, we moved forward and developed the website layout design using Figma and converted it into HTML and CSS code.
Challenges we ran into
All of the members had different coding experiences, and we could delegate responsibilities according to knowledge. We split the work based on who was specialized in what field, some of us focused on the design and graphics, and others led the project's programming. Overall, it required significant amounts of coordination.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Half of our members have never participated in a hackathon before, and we are thrilled to have been able to have created a website together.
