Inspiration

Working in an organisation which supports girls and non-binary into technology we were stuck with a problem of manual pairing for our mentorship cycles and being a small organisation reachability was a major factor holding us back. Rewinding back couple of years ago as a girl in tech, the industry seemed a little daunting and it was hard to find the right community for me. Merging these challenges our group being an all-girls group proudly set out to create a hack to tackle these issues and create a one stop solution for all these problems.

What it does

One stop platform for communities supporting girls in technology. Solves connectivity issues through innovative features. Major Features

  • Automated Pairing algorithm designed from scratch
  • Human Library (Information flashcards of people) to improve connectivity
  • Twilio WhatsApp Messaging (For instant, secure, private communication with mentor and mentee)
  • Forms integrated with data repository for storage of data
  • Inspirations section with dynamically changing quotes from famous women in technology
  • Admin data security secret login for exporting data
  • Opportunities and community section to make the right decision

How we built it

Connect uses Python’s two very dominant libraries namely Numpy (stands for Numeric Python) and Pandas (Built on the top of Numpy) for data manipulations and mathematical and logical operations to be performed on the multi-dimentional arrays and matrices using Python’s Flask framework. We even integrated twilio API, and linkedIn profiles.

Please refer to our "system model" in screenshots to get more clarity

Challenges we ran into

We ran into infinite (at least for us) obstacles while building the Logic and Algorithm from scratch, while optimizing it, while exporting the data, while finding real-time organizational data already working in this domain to evaluate the accuracy of our algorithm, integrating Data security to handle the crucial personal data of the mentors and mentees and that too using the Flask-framework on which we barely even worked on.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

So glad we freaking finished a giant project with all working functionalities!!! Furthermore, we have designed a solution for a real-life problem. #ChangeMakers #GirlsInTech

What we learned

Technically we learned a lot of intricacies of flask, aspects of design and most importantly the skill of networking to consider problem real organisations face.

What's next for Connect

Self-sustaining gender minorities in Tech Industry are not found in many countries especially the ones with individualistic identities and opinions. Hence, our next milestone would be to make Connect accessible to all gender minorities around the world enabling them to step into Tech Industry and outshine others. We are also intensely working to make Connect a more user-friendly and interactive software enabling the user redefine and carve themselves a new and guided path in the Tech Industry.
