Inspirations:
The idea for Connect was developed as a response to the prompt provided, which asked for a pitch for an imaginary piece of software centered around letting users "meet new people" during the COVID-19 pandemic. In developing the idea for Connect, we considered the challenges that the pandemic has posed for online communication and socialization, and sought to create a solution that would address these challenges in a creative and innovative way. We focused on creating a platform that would allow users to easily meet new people and form connections based on common interests, using advanced technology and interactive features to provide a unique and engaging user experience.
Overall, there were already a lot of communication apps out there for the same purpose, and Connect was specifically inspired by certain components of LinkedIn, Omegle, and Discord. Being intended as a creative and innovative solution to the challenge, offering users a unique and engaging platform for meeting new people and forming connections, we realized we could reference some successful components of existing platforms. We took note of LinkedIn’s profiles, indexing, and searching, along with Omegle’s type of concept of being able to meet random online users to talk with them, and Discord’s modern versatility and design.
Challenges:
In the process of designing Connect, there were a few challenges we faced, the biggest ones being originality, and technical challenges. There are already many established social networking apps on the market, so it can be difficult for a new app to stand out and attract users. Furthermore, building a social networking app requires a significant amount of technical expertise and resources, including knowledge on using complex algorithms for things like content recommendation and user matching.
