CONNECT

Inspiration

We were inspired by a simple but powerful observation: people in rural and marginalized communities are not short of ambition—they're short of access. Many women and unemployed youth want to learn, earn, and grow—but they don’t know where to start. Scattered resources, digital illiteracy, and lack of personalized support keep them excluded.

This problem became even more urgent during the pandemic, where women lost jobs at a disproportionately high rate and 1 in 5 people continued to face discrimination. We asked ourselves: What if there was a smart, simple app that brought the right opportunities directly to them?

That’s how CONNECT was born

What it does

CONNECT helps users instantly find the right platforms for learning, skill-building, and opportunities—cutting through the noise of irrelevant content and saving time and effort.

How we built it

We used CANVA to make the prototype, the most common platform.

Our AI engine uses keyword profiling and user intent detection to match users with:

Free online courses

Job and internship listings

Entrepreneurship resources

Government schemes and benefits

Challenges we ran into

Data overload: Filtering and organizing thousands of free, reliable sources without overwhelming the user.

User trust: Designing an experience simple and credible enough for non-digital natives.

Relevance: Ensuring the app gives personalized recommendations despite limited input from low-literacy users.

Time constraint: Balancing feature ambition with hackathon deadlines.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This is my first hackathon.

What we learned

We deepened our understanding of SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities)—realizing how education, income, and digital inclusion are tightly connected.

We explored how AI and smart filtering can simplify complex resource ecosystems.

We learned the importance of designing for real-world limitations, like low connectivity or language barriers in rural areas.

What's next for CONNECT

We plan to partner with NGOs and local governments to roll out CONNECT across rural communities, refine its AI capabilities, and integrate it with WhatsApp and SMS for even wider reach.
