Inspiration

If you have gone to a hackathon, meeting, party, or any other networking event, you know how much of a struggle it is to get people's contact information. You have to read the username, phone number, or email off of their device and enter it into yours, usually using different apps for each username. This is tedious and time-consuming. Not only that, but many people's online usernames are different from their real names, and you are likely to forget who is who.

What it does

Connect is a quick and easy way to share all your contact information with other people you meet. Simply add all your contact information to your profile, and show your QR code to others. When they scan it with the app, your contact information gets added to a list of scanned contacts, which they can access later.

How we built it

The app is a cross-platform mobile app built with React Native and some other plugins for generating and scanning QR codes.

Challenges I ran into

React-Native uses JavaScript, which has weird and finicky syntax.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

This is my first mobile app.

What I learned

I learnt how to make a mobile app with React-Native.

What's next for Connect

  1. Uploading the app to app stores so people can download and use it.
  2. Add support for more types of contact information.
  3. More methods of sharing contact information, like tapping phones together and using NFC.
  4. Automatic calendar synchronization: showing which event you met people at.
