Inspiration

DJing has always been about connecting people through sound and energy, but access to equipment and venues creates a huge barrier. MR DJ Experience was born from a simple question: what if anyone could step behind the decks using just a headset and their hands?

We wanted to democratize music performance — to let creators mix, perform, and discover music wherever they are, blending physical presence with immersive digital stages.

What it does

MR DJ Experience is the first hand-tracked mixed-reality DJ platform with direct Beatport integration, giving users access to over 11 million tracks. It runs natively on Meta Quest and Ray-Ban Meta wearables, allowing users to: • Control decks and FX through natural hand gestures • Perform live in mixed-reality environments with interactive, music-reactive lighting • Discover and preview new tracks directly from Beatport • Join social jam sessions or stream performances live

Unlike traditional DJ apps or simulations, our focus is on expression and discovery, not hardware replication. We’re building the bridge between professional DJing and casual creative exploration.

How we built it

The prototype was developed in Unity XR SDK with Meta Presence SDK, Passthrough API, and hand-tracking v2. We optimised real-time audio responsiveness and visuals through asynchronous frame updates to minimise latency. Beatport’s API enables seamless in-app browsing and waveform visualisation. Lighting and environment effects were built with Meta’s latest Mixed Reality Lighting Tools to sync motion, BPM, and spatial ambience.

Challenges we ran into

• Hand-tracking accuracy: achieving millisecond precision for cross-fader and EQ gestures.
• Audio latency: synchronising multiple audio sources while maintaining MR performance.
• UX design: balancing professional depth with accessibility for first-time users.

Each challenge shaped our current interaction model, improving both accuracy and user flow.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

• Beatport Partnership: Secured a soft buy-in from Beatport, earning a commission for every new subscriber acquired through the app.
• Meta Validation: Meta mentors expressed strong support for our focus on live performance and encouraged us to pursue it as a core direction.
• Industry Interest: Early conversations underway with professional DJs and their management teams to explore live mixed-reality set integrations.

What we learned

• The MR audience expects instant creative payoff — no tutorials, no setup.
• Real DJs crave new music discovery inside the headset.
• Accessibility + creativity = engagement. Freemium + social layers amplify reach.

What's next for Conduit XR

We’re now preparing a freemium public release with pro upgrades, user-generated visual packs, and Beatport-linked social playlists. Our roadmap includes multiplayer stages, AI-assisted hand performance, and integration with Meta Horizon Worlds for live events.

MR DJ Experience isn’t just an app — it’s the evolution of performance, bringing the future of music creation to everyone.
