We developed a 'too-good-to-go' platform for excess building material on large construction sites and, thus, minimizing the amount of waste as well as reducing the amount of traffic caused by trucks.

Inspiration

The construction industry is facing huge Problems like emission, pollution, waste production and infrastructure load. The reasons for that are a lack of multiple things such as communication, information, efficiency, automation as well as transparency.

What it does

The Solution we came up with is a platform where we provide services for Material suppliers, construction sites, and handymen similar to TO GOOD TO GO.

By enabling all platform parties to share their data, progress, and locations we break open,,,,, data silos and are able to use the power of modern technologies for better communication and efficiency in the industry.

By keeping track of the construction progress we can automatically sell leftover materials on our Marketplace, place new orders at our suppliers, and track your material thanks to IoT connectivity powered by 5G.

We provide a rich and adoptable Dashboard for our suppliers to keep track of customers, inventory, orders, and so on.

IoT equipped trucks constantly monitor the quality of a concrete mix and ETA. In case of delays, suitable alternatives are picked before wasting valuable materials.

Leftover goods are sold automatically on our marketplace if a building part is finished. Because of network effects we are able to use perishable goods and also aggregate small buyers to offer quantity discounts

Our platform not only enables handymen to pick up building material from larger construction sites, our dynamic pricing policy also incentivizes the pickup at nearby sites and thus minimizes the caused traffic.

How we built it

Our platform is a flutter-based app that makes use of Huawei HMS providing the necessary information for the location as well as the map. Furthermore, it uses as a python-based backend API being hosted on our own servers.

Challenges we ran into

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Due to many discussions with Holcim and their partners, we managed to get a good understanding of the problems that the concrete industry faces on a daily basis.
  • We developed a functioning prototype providing the necessary functionalities to actually use the app.
