Inspiration
Today's college students have access to thousands of courses, videos, research papers, and tutorials. The challenge is no longer finding content; it's knowing what to learn, when to learn it, and whether they have the necessary prerequisites. We created Concept DNA to help students navigate this overwhelming learning landscape and build a personalized path toward their STEM goals.
What it does
Concept DNA is an AI-powered navigation system for STEM learning. Students begin by selecting a learning goal such as Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, or Robotics. They then complete a diagnostic assessment that evaluates their current understanding.
Based on the results, Concept DNA generates a personalized STEM DNA profile, visualizes knowledge through an interactive Knowledge Graph, identifies knowledge gaps, and creates a tailored learning roadmap. The platform helps students understand exactly what they need to learn next and why.
How we built it
We built Concept DNA as a modern web application focused on personalized learning and intuitive user experience. The platform includes goal-based onboarding, diagnostic assessments, STEM DNA reports, knowledge graph visualizations, and personalized roadmaps.
Our focus was on creating a cohesive workflow that transforms complex STEM learning journeys into clear and actionable learning paths.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was designing a system that represents learning as an interconnected network rather than a linear curriculum. STEM subjects contain complex prerequisite relationships, making it difficult to visualize dependencies in a simple and intuitive way.
We also had to balance depth and usability, ensuring that the platform remained informative while being accessible to students from different backgrounds.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a complete learning workflow that connects assessments, knowledge mapping, and roadmap generation into a single experience.
We are especially proud of the STEM DNA concept, the interactive Knowledge Graph, and the personalized learning roadmaps that help students navigate complex STEM topics more effectively.
What we learned
This project taught us that one of the biggest barriers in STEM education is not the lack of resources but the abundance of them. Students often need guidance more than they need additional content.
We also learned how important visualization and personalization are when helping learners understand their progress and identify knowledge gaps.
What's next for CONCEPT DNA
The current prototype demonstrates the complete Concept DNA workflow. Our next steps include integrating real-time AI-powered assessments, dynamic roadmap generation, personalized resource recommendations, and adaptive learning experiences.
In the future, we envision Concept DNA becoming a personalized navigation layer for STEM education, helping students confidently navigate emerging fields and lifelong learning journeys.
