Computations

Inspiration

What inspired the design of this project are my studying habits and of those around me. Many people now prefer to study on their devices whether it be completing assignments or practicing questions. Online software allows you to practice anywhere as long as you have a device and is much more eco friendly than the traditional paper and pen.

What it does

The program 'Computations' is a console based program, that helps you prepare for any exam or assignment, digitally! The user can make their problem sets and practice them, while getting instant feedback as to whether they're correct or not. This also serves as a checkpoint for the user and helps them gauge a better idea of their level of understanding of a specific topic.

How we built it

This program was built using the programming language C++, and the desktop program, Visual Studio Code (VS Code). The video demo submission was made using the iMovie application.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges that I ran into doing this hackathon was the amount of work that there was to do, as I was doing this project all by myself (team of 1!). However, I pushed through and along with brushing up on my programming skills, working under such a time crunch has helped me develop many other soft skills such as time management, resiliency, and patience. Another obstacle was learning how to using GitHub, though with the use of online videos and the amazing help and support that was provided during the hackathon, I was able to figure it out and submit on time!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of the main accomplishments that I am proud of during this hackathon is the fact that I completed it. This is my very first hackathon and it did seem difficult and intimidating at first, but I stuck to my plans, and slowly got through it!

What we learned

There are many things that I have learned in the past 3 days. Along with this being an excellent opportunity for me to build on my programming skills, I also gained a lot of interpersonal skills. Through the workshops hosted on Discord, to brainstorming my project, and finally getting around to coding and uploading it, this journey has taught me how how to be more flexible and resilient, and has improved my problem solving skills.

What's next for Computations

I would like to make an improved version of this program, as I feel like it could develop into something more useful. I would like to add a user interface to it, and add features that allow users to save their problems sets on it.
