Compton community hub

Inspiration

Our Inspiration for the project was the fact that Compton is a beautiful city, and we see the change that the professionals in the city have been striving towards. One thing that doesn't get overlooked but could always use more attention is the morale of the residents in Compton. They hear so much negativity as well in person as well as the media portrayal. For people to appreciate where they are they have to visually see what it has to offer.

What it does Our project does is a full equipped resource page where they can find phone numbers, emails, and a map of the City of Compton. On top of being a resource page we have also implemented the positive affirmations and random fun facts for the city to boost morale for the residents.

How we built it We built our project using vs code. Our sectiondata defines each tab like our welcome, map, communities, education, jobs, health and housing. Our Render tabs build the nav buttons.

we have 3 API, our Wikipedia rest Api, our browser geo location for the map. and Web Notifications API for the "push love" button ask for notification permission and fires a browsers notification. the Gamification - a badge_def plus local storage and the comptonHubState tracks which sections you've visited, cards you've opened, phone numbers tapped

Challenges we ran into Our challenges that we ran into was a way to use the map without getting copywritten, as well as changing the layout a lot to make sure it looked positive and uplifting. Getting all the resources checked to make sure they genuinely work. Our biggest challenge though was integrated our two codes without messing up anything because we both did demos and then combined our code.

Accomplishments that we're proud of We are very proud of the map, the resources link and how it gamifies the whole website and makes it like a challenge that they really want to win. Making it open but not so open where there is nothing to do or nothing to achieve.

What we learned

We learned how to make things that that benefit others and not just on a style basis, but to connect people through the same things that have connected us to things we still use up to this day.

What's next for Compton community hub

Next for Compton community Hub would be to make it global and have a community hub in every area. As well as doing outreach programs connected to each phone number we use for resource as well as having workshops where people can start writing the affirmations for our page so they are way more personal
