Inspiration
Hackonomics 2025’s focus on combining economics and computer science inspired me to tackle a topic I’ve always found both fascinating and intimidating: DeFi (Decentralized Finance). Concepts like APY, lending, and borrowing were everywhere, but learning about them felt overwhelming—like I needed a finance degree or had to risk real money.
I wanted to create something that made these ideas approachable, especially for students, beginners, and educators. That’s how CompoundED was born: a safe, interactive platform to learn DeFi concepts, available in both English and Hindi to make it accessible to more learners.
What it does
CompoundED is a risk-free DeFi learning playground designed to simplify economic concepts such as:
- Lending, borrowing, and APY through mock simulations.
- A live risk gauge and wallet tracker.
- Interactive quizzes, badges, and a leaderboard.
- A built-in glossary for key terms.
- Theme customization and bilingual support (English and Hindi).
It makes financial literacy engaging, practical, and beginner-friendly—aligned perfectly with Hackonomics' mission.
How I built it
I built CompoundED solo using:
- HTML and Tailwind CSS for layout and responsive styling.
- JavaScript to handle DeFi simulations and interactivity.
- Chart.js to visualize user balances, interest growth, and risk.
- Lottie animations for added engagement.
- Vercel for easy deployment and static hosting.
All logic is simulated—no real money or blockchain required—making it safe for learning.
Challenges I ran into
- Simulating DeFi interactions while keeping them intuitive and risk-free.
- Implementing smooth bilingual support across all components.
- Designing a UI that feels fun, modern, and not overly "AI-generic."
- Handling Vercel deployment errors and routing issues for static assets.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- Created an interactive DeFi learning tool end-to-end, solo.
- Made financial education accessible through multilingual support.
- Aligned the project closely with Hackonomics’ goals of education, economics, and tech integration.
- Delivered a product that is both useful and fun for first-time learners.
What I learned
- How Compound and similar DeFi platforms work under the hood.
- Techniques to simplify and teach complex economic concepts through interactivity.
- Practical UI/UX principles for designing inclusive educational tools.
- Best practices in static deployment, error handling, and accessibility.
What's next for CompoundED
- Add more Indian and global languages to reach a broader audience.
- Integrate additional DeFi protocols for advanced simulations.
- Partner with educators and student clubs for classroom adoption.
- Expand gamification with unlockables and experience levels.
The goal is to continue making DeFi education open, engaging, and understandable for all—starting here with Hackonomics.
