Inspiration

Keeping NYC sustainability in mind, this was designed as an effort to reduce the 1,000,000 tons of food waste that gets sent to landfills every year.

What it does

It is a free service where registered users can find nearby locations in the bustling city of New York to drop off their food scraps. At the same time, New York City residents with a green thumb can register their own location as a dropoff site.

How we built it

I built it using an online software called proto.io. I followed video tutorials and online explanations to teach myself how to maneuver around the software.

Challenges we ran into

A challenge I faced was the steep learning curve that came with proto.io. The containers and layers were particularly tricky, but eventually I got the hang of it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud to have implemented a custom map and developed an interactive website.

What we learned

I learned how to use proto.io and the basics of web design.

What's next for CompoSt.

The next step for CompoSt. is adding more dropoff stations and an incentive system where users drop off more food waste to CompoSt. locations and can receive vouchers for local farmers' markets.
