Inspiration

Media teams are sitting on years of valuable video, but most of it is functionally invisible. Editors still spend hours scrubbing long-form footage to find the right moment, create a recap, or package clips for social and digital distribution.

Composer by Pixel ML was built around a simple idea: every long-form video should become searchable, reusable, and reviewable the moment it enters the archive.

What it does

Composer is a source-grounded video workbench for archive-heavy media teams. It helps users search long-form video, find timestamped moments, collect useful clips, and prepare reviewable editorial drafts such as recaps, teasers, and short-form packages.

The goal is not to replace editors. Composer helps editors move faster while keeping source context visible at every step.

How we built it

Composer combines video processing, AI-assisted scene understanding, search, and review workflows. The product layer is designed as an editorial workbench: search, clip selection, draft output generation, and human approval.

For this build, we focused on the archive-to-output flow: turning long-form video into searchable moments and reviewable editorial drafts.

Challenges

The hardest part is making generative AI useful without making it untrustworthy. For editorial teams, a generated clip or recap is only useful if the source is visible, the timestamp is clear, and the human can approve or reject the output.

That is why Composer is built around source grounding, review steps, and timestamped context instead of black-box generation.

What we learned

Video AI becomes much more useful when it is shaped around a real workflow. Search alone is not enough. Generation alone is not enough. The value is in connecting archive understanding to editorial output, while keeping the user in control.

What's next

Next we want to improve multi-video story sets, richer recap generation, and destination-specific export packages for media teams.
