Inspiration

India's 6.3 crore MSMEs—the backbone of our economy—are drowning in compliance chaos. Small factories face 400+ overlapping regulations across labor, safety, pollution, and tax, with rules varying drastically by state. The result? MSMEs spend ₹50,000-₹5 lakhs annually on consultants, yet 25% still face penalties for missed filings. We witnessed factory owners spending more time on paperwork than production. ComplyPilot was born from one question: What if compliance could be as simple as checking your email?

What it does

ComplyPilot is an AI-powered Compliance Intelligence Platform that transforms regulatory chaos into clarity. It delivers: Smart Compliance Dashboard: Automatically identifies and displays only the central and state regulations applicable to your specific industry, location, and business size—no manual research required. AI-Powered Change Detection: Instantly alerts users when relevant laws, deadlines, or formats change, eliminating manual tracking and surprise penalties. Auto-Reminders & Filing Calendar: WhatsApp and email notifications ensure zero missed deadlines, with pre-filled templates for faster submissions. Multi-User Collaboration: Owners, CAs, and compliance teams work seamlessly on one platform with role-based access and audit trails.

How we built it

ComplyPilot is architected for scale and intelligence: Frontend: React/Next.js delivers fast, intuitive dashboards optimized for mobile and desktop. Backend/API Gateway: NestJS ensures secure, robust API services with JWT authentication and role-based access control. AI Service: Python/FastAPI powers our compliance intelligence engine, running fine-tuned LLMs for regulation analysis and natural language processing. ML/NLP Pipeline: Scrapes and processes data from government portals, factory documents, and legal databases to perform real-time regulation classification and change detection. Database: PostgreSQL with Redis caching for high-speed data retrieval and audit logging.

Challenges we ran into

The Regulatory Data Challenge: India's compliance landscape is vast, fragmented, and constantly evolving. Mapping 400+ overlapping rules across 28 states, each with unique formats and portals, required building a sophisticated data pipeline from scratch. The Real-Time Intelligence Challenge: Ensuring our AI could detect regulatory changes within hours (not days) demanded a robust MLOps pipeline with continuous model retraining. We solved this by implementing automated web scrapers, localized NLP models, and a microservices architecture that allows independent scaling of our AI service.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Localized Intelligence Engine: Successfully built AI logic that auto-detects applicable regulations based on 7 parameters (PAN, GST, industry code, state, employee count, turnover, pollution category)—reducing compliance identification time from weeks to seconds. Real-Time Change Alerts: Achieved <24-hour detection latency for regulatory updates, actively preventing client penalties before they happen. Scalable Microservices Architecture: Separated AI processing into independent services, enabling 10x faster compliance analysis without affecting core app performance. Guided Filing Workflow: Built end-to-end compliance journeys—from "what to file" to "where to submit"—with pre-filled templates and e-signature integration.

What we learned

The real breakthrough in RegTech isn't just digitization—it's intelligent filtering. MSMEs don't need all 400 regulations; they need the 15-30 that actually apply to them. We learned that Localized Intelligence + Proactive Change Detection creates 100x more value than generic compliance checklists. This required building a continuous learning system (MLOps) where our AI improves with every regulatory update, making data accuracy the foundation of user trust.

What's next for COMPLYPILOT

Phase 1 (0-6 months): Launch in 3 pilot states (Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu) covering Factories Act, Labour, and Pollution regulations. Target 100 early adopters. Phase 2 (6-12 months): Integrate direct filing APIs with government portals (MCA, EPFO, Pollution Control Boards) for one-click submissions. Phase 3 (12-18 months): Expand B2B licensing for CA firms managing multiple MSME clients. Scale to 10 states and 5,000+ businesses. Vision: Become India's "Compliance Operating System"—where staying legal is automatic, not overwhelming. Our north star: Zero penalties for 1 million MSMEs by 2027. Vision Realization: Cementing ComplyPilot as the "CHATGPT for Compliance in India"
